Negotiations for the release of Sleeg’s party are reported to have broken down. The brigands are treating the prisoners severely in order to bring pressure on the French, whose refusal to accept the terms is causing dissatisfaction and unrest among neighbouring tribes, who perhaps are the most arrogant and least civilised of anv in 'Morocco.
