INVERCAROILL, 81H Juno.
Seventeen charges of false pretences were preferred against Douglas Charles Hopewell, a young Canadian, who had been passing valueless cheques in various parts of the Dominion during the past twelve months. The amount involved in the charges totals £7O. The accused's counsel stated that he was a son of a Canadian Judge. He had a distinguished war service, but was a drug addict. He was remanded for the report of the probation officer.
