WOMAN'S JOKE ON MOTORISTS
LONDON, Ist June.
A woman, wearing a police cap and tunic, yesterday stepped into the roadway at one of the main entrances to the city, states,the Paris correspondent of the "Times," and, with upraised truncheon, signalled the traffic to stop. The policewoman has not yet appeared in Paris, but the woman's authoritative gesture was respected, arid long streams of cars accumulated. The. woman kept her truncheon uplifted despile the cars' impatient hooting, until a policeman investigated the hold-up and arrested the woman, who is well known to the police for other activities.
She explained that she had read n thq newspapers that 'women would shortly be recruited for police service, and she desired to practise before qualifying.
