CHAMBERLAIN AND LEVINE

OFFICIAL CONGRATULATIONS TO AIRMEN

BERLIN, 7th June.
Chamberlain reached Berlin after an hour's flight from Kottbus. A multitude greeted his approach with a storm of cheering. The Columbia, with an escort, continued its lliglit , over tin* city, and workers leaving offices joined in the welcome.
The aeroplanes returned and alighted amid renewed demonstrations.
A cordon of police immediately surrounded the Columbia.
The American Ambassador, attended by the entire Embassy staff, first greeted Chamberlain and Levine. In the course of a speech the ambassador hailed them as celestial messengers carrying goodwill and friendship from America to Germany. Ilerr Curtiiis, Gerfnan < Minister of Ejiohomies, congratulated -the airmen*on hehall of Germany,, remarking that .they -had cemented."German-American -bonds.
Chamberlain says ho-has no-intention of flying back to America, though he adheres to the Piiris-Vicnnu-London tour.
A CONTRAST POOR WELCOMING TO CARR AND GILLMAN LONDON, Bth June. Whereas 200,000 people welcomed Lindbergh at Croydon and another 60,000 acclaimed Chamberlain at Berlin, only twelve people, including relatives and newspaper men, welcomed Can- and Oilman at Victoria Station, after risking their lives to secure the long distance record for Britain and failing by tho narrow margin of onlv 185 miles. They drove home from the station without a single cheer. ROOKE'S JOURNEY _ , CAIRO, 7th Juno. Kooke, while en route to Aboukir, was compelled to descend twice in the Libyan Desert for repairs. He resumes his journey to Australia on 14th June.
