MURCHISON'S FUTURE

AN OPTIMISTIC VIEW

(By Telegraph—Special to . "The Mail")

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day

The prospect of escaping, in visits to Christchuroh, a journey that now occupies part of two days, was one in which Professor Wall, in his botanic expedition to the. West Coast and Nelson recently, found residents north of Reefton 'intensely interested. Describing the scheme 'in. his address last evening to the Philosophical Institute, the professor said that only 26 miles of road remained to he put into condition for motor travel and the journey from Reef' ton to Christehurch would occupy but six hours. The route would, from tha east coast, be from the Waiau ferry, past Hanmor to the poplars over the Boyle river, to Lewis Pass, and through to the Manila Springs. It was an interesting journey. ''The people are keen to see the route completed and so eliminate a long and nasty journey," said Professor Wall. The professor remarked that Murchison, one of the townships that, would benefit, was a progressive place and seemed to hava better prospects than many of the larger West Coast towns such as Westport, Recfton and even Greymouth.
