LAWN TENNIS
LACOSTE DEFEATS TILDEN
(By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Außtrairtt,ii & N.Z. Cable Association)
LONDON,. sth June. The “Daily News’’ Paris correspondent says Tiiden succumbed to Lacoste as the result of one of the hardest games in his career, which lasted 3i hours and provided a brilliant display. Tilden’s varied attacks would have intimidated a player less phlegmatic than Lacoste. There were many lengthy rallies, the ball once passing the net 61 times. Lacoste, diving to make a return in the third set, strained a muscle of his leg and was scarcely able to hobble in the last three games, but recovered after massage and brilliantly won the fourth and final set.
Tiiden cut out fancy strokes, driving his hardest, and came up to the net, but Lacoste was unbeatable.
