LOAN BOARD’S POWERS
MAY DELAY WORKS (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day Some concern is said to be felt regarding the outcome oi the operations of the newly constituted Loans Board, and fear is expressed that the powers placed in its hands may at times result in serious delay in the prosecution of public works which sometimes are of an urgent character. The board can call for plans and specifications of the work for which a loan is proposed. The case of the Wellington City Council is cited wherein the list of items recently formulated totalled £750,000 with a view to securing the Loan Board’s approval before seeking the ratepayers’ sanction to a loan. Tf the fullest plans and details of all these works must be submitted to the board before its approval is obtained very considerable delay may result, arid it may be necessary to take, not one but several polls (one* for each particular work) before the whole schedule is submitted.
