REV. H. VAN STAVEREN
COMPLETES FIFTY YEARS AS RABBI (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Rev. IT. Van Staveren 6n Saturday completed the fiftieth year of his ministry as Rabbi of tlie Jewish community in Wellington, which arranged a special testimonial to mark tlie occasion. Owing, however, to a bereavement in the \ an Staveren family this was presented pri'valc-ly. As a further recognition, the Chief Rabbi of the British Empire, Dr. •T. 11. llentx, has conferred on the Rev. Mr Van Staveren ,the title of “rnorenu” or teacher (teachers being the priests of Israel). This title is the highest honour iu Ihe Hebrew faith, and confers upon I lie bearer tlie right to decide all matters of right or wrong among his people.
