vrsrr from aijjaxte officers On Saturday evening the weekly gathering of the Loyal ,Nelson Lodge 1.0.G.T. was held in the Rechabiies Hall, presided over bv Chief Templar Sister Mrs Watsen. The meeting was visited by Messrs Armstrong and Grinstead, two of the able leading officers of the New Zealand Alliance. Mr Armstrong gave a "braco” lantern exhibition, showing four reels of films; first illustrating the story of silk, its many processes of manufacture from the silk work to the finished article. Then tho gathering were taken on a trip through the New England States of America, which are among the forty-nine States now under nation-wide prohibition. A third reel showed the scientific effect of alcohol on the body, brain, and mind, proving very interesting; as also did the film showing the medical testimonies’of physicians, and others against alcohol. Then followed homely talks on the coming campaign of the Alliance to secure a two clear issue ballot paper during next session of Parliament, which would give the voters the clear issue of voting for continuance or for national prohibition at the next licensing poll. Mr Grinstead dealt with the custom of providing wines at.- weddings and other social functions, and strongly Condemned tho custom. Coffee and cakes were provided, and handed round by Bisters Watson and Blair.
