FRUITGROWERS’ ASSOCIATION

Tho animal general meeting of tho Mahana Fruitgrowers’ Association was presided over by Mr. A. E. Jackson. The balance sheet, which showed a he'd thy state of affairs, was adopted. Jackson; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. 11. Brunt, and J. A. Archibald; committee, Messrs \V. It. Argue and J. Coutts; bon. sec. and treas., Mr. W. P. Salmond; auditors, Messrs. W. E. Argue and J. 11. Brunt. Mr A. E. Jackson aiid Mr J. A. Archibald were appointed delegates to (he Provincial Conference, Mr W. P. Salmond, acting for the Moiitere Hills Fruit Exporters’ Association, anil Mr J. 11. Brunt for the Bronfe Frnitpaekers’ Association.

Tho remits to conference were then briefly discussed, and Mr Salmond made a report upon the work done by the Advisory Board and the Moutere Hills Fruit' Exporters’ Association during the past year. Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from, Mr. Goodwin and Mr Blanche, who had been invited -to attend the meeting. The chairman expressed the hope that now tho busy packing season was over greater interest would be shown by members in Association affairs, as much good could bn done by growers getting together, not only to discuss business blatters but lo have social gatherings, etc.

HOUSEHOLDERS’ MEETING At the annual meeting of householders m the Mahana School the report and statement of accounts were read and adopted. The latter showed a credit balance of £34 6s 7d. The annual report stated that the work of the school was being very satisfactorily carried out by Miss Stade, the outstanding feature of the year being the fact that all the four pupils presented for the Junior National Scholarship had been successful, while one of the candidates had the further distinction of scoring the highest number of marks in the Dominion. This, it was pointed out, was a unique record, and a great tribute to the hard work put in bv Miss Stade, while Mr Papps’s work had also to bo recognised, and the children given credit for working so well. During October, the committee’s policy of planting forest trees in the school garden had been, brought into force. A number 0 f the seeds or different varieties of eucalyptus and pines had been sown with verv satisfactory results. Mr. Everiss, of Mapua, kindly superintended the planting of these seeds, and has undertaken to supervise the wrenching of the plants which are now ready for this operation. The yearlings will then be sold' in the district, the proceeds to go to tho school funds. During the year a gramaphone and records had been secured for the school through the Education Department, and they 'wero a source of great pleasure and instruction to the children. Parents and residents had contributed a further sum of £llos for the purpose of purchasing more records. The social arranged by Miss Stade to mark the break-up for the' Christmas holidays was a decided success, while the Jphilee Institute for the Blind'benefited to tlie extent, of £1 2s Od, the net s,uyn realised for sweets, etc., sold during the evening. Upori receiving the foregoing report, the residents fully endorsed the cnair* man’s preliminary remark, that the work of the school was being very satisfactorily carried out, not only by the teacher, but by the energetic committee, the election of which resulted as follows: Messrs. Jackson (chairman’), Argue, Creasy, Bensemann and Fraser (secretary)."
