EXHIBITION ON WHEELS

NEW ZEALAND-MADE GOODS

MOTOR CARAVAN TO TOUR DOMINION

Action and yet more action has characterised the work of the New Zealand-made Preference League throughout its comparatively brief existence, and now another big advertising project has been decided on. A convoy of. 50 or more motor trucks exhibiting New Zealand-made goods will start on a comprehensive tour of both islands towards the end of September.

This "Great White Convoy," as it will be called, will consist of enclosed one ton trucks painted white, with immovable sides. As a general rule each vehicle will carry a single exhibit, but some will be devoted to two exhibits. The trucks will be electrically lit, and will carry their own cinema and wireless plant. Provided a licence can be obtained, the convoy will broadcast propaganda urging the support of NewZealand industries from a transmitting set having a range of SO .miles. i At least 100 towns will be visited in the course of the tour, which will cover 2f>oo miles. The period spent in each town will depend upon its size, and in the larger centres a stay of several davs will be made.

The conVoy will start its long journey from Wellington and the route will be up the west coast, via New Plymouth and Hamilton,- to Auckland, via Hamilton to Rotorua, Gisborne and Napier, returning to Wellington by way of the Wairarapa. In the South Island the convoy will land at Picton and proceed to Blenheim, through Nelson and down the West Coast as far as Westport; and then by train or road to Christchurch, whence the road to Invereargill will lie taken, via Timaru and Dunedin. It is expected that the convoy will be a-quarter of a mile in length and that i'. will present a unique spectacle on the road. Window displays of New Zealand goods in the different towns during the visit of the convoy are being arranged. The project is expected to cost £12,000 and is to be made self-supporting, in keeping with the policy followed by the league.
