The first incident occurred at Mormr Hill, when their car in attempting to pass another hail the luggage torn off. Tho side was* considerably damaged. A little further on the car broke down and the party were stranded on tho roadside. A relief car also broke down. The party did not reach Gisborne till 11.40 p.m. Finally, when the original car arrived with the lsggage it caught fire outside the hotel, but the flames were extinguished and little damage was done.
