WAIRAU VALLEY

ANNUAL MEETING RESULTS

The Wairau Valley hack race meeting was held yesterday in wet weather, with the course, in a terribly muddy condition, and a consequently poor attendance. Miss Minnie, the Riwakaownecl mare, which was freely accepted for and was the ruling favourite, unfortunately failed to put in an appearance and consequently took a lot of the looked-for good racing from the public. Ashform’s two good wins were well received, especially her defeating the Great Northern Steeplechase recentwinner, Dick, easily. Mr Don Mcßae, late of Takaka, but now of Wairau Valley, produced a double winner in Perianda, and looks like repeating the performance at Pelorus on New Year’s Day. Following are the results:— Maiden Hack, of five furlongs: Perianda, 8.7, 1; Wet Sticks, 8.7, 2; Grey Form, 8.7, 3 .Won easily. Lansdowne Handicap Trot, of one mile and a half: Royal Thorpe, ser., 1; Poitoi, ser., 2; Lunsdale, 168yds bhd, 3.
