SERIOUS ACCIDENT

NELSON RESIDENT INJURED AT RIWAKA

STRAY STOCK ON THE ROAD

A serious accident, occurred at Riwaka on Sunday afternoon, resulting in serious injuries being sustained by Mrs Cecil Hunter of Nelson. Mrs Hunter, in company with Mrs George Chapman of Riwaka and Mrs Chapman's eight year old daughter, was walking along the Riwaka road when Mrs Hunter and the little. girl were knocked down by a motor cycle ridden by Mr D’Arcy Ricketts, of Beachville, Nelson. As the motor cycle approached the pedestrians, a stray horse which had been feeding on the roadside, wandered across the road and the motor cyclist, to avoid crashing into it, swerved to the side passing just under, or just by, the horse’s head. He then came suddenly on to the pedestrians, wlio were on the grass close up to blackberry bushes on tne side of the road. The little girl was struck first, but fortunately was thrown clear, sustaining / only bruises and,shock.- Mrs Hunter, however, fared worse, 1 and it. would appear that.the passed right'over her; .One of her legs'was fractured above the ankle, both bones being broken,- she sustained a nasty'wound in the thigh and is suffering- considerably from body bruises.
