RAILWAY RATES ON DAIRY PRODUCE
COMPLAINT FROM MANAWATU (United Pres* Association., PALMERSTON N., This Day. A special meeting this morning of the executive of the Manawatu-West Coast Dairy Companies’ Association expressed si rang disfavour at recent concessions in railway freights on dairy produce sent to Wellington from 175 to 340 mi)- - * radius. The grounds of complaint have been- that Waikato butter is now undercutting the produce, of this district on the Wellington market. It was pointed nut that local district companies would save in freight by sending produce by road instead of by rail, and that several companies would do this if the differential treatment was persisted in. It was decided to make representations to the Railway Board that long distance freights on butter and cheeso should apply to produce for export only. The meeting was attended by four local disttiet members of Parliament, who were entirely in accord with tho sentiments expressed.
