WHY?
SOME PERTINENT QUESTIONS (By Telegraph.—Special to “The Mail.") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Why was it, asked Professor H. G. Denham in an address to manufacturers last night, that while. New Zealand’s production of dairy produce had raised her to a. pre-eminent position in that respect her yield of butterfat per cow per annum ranked among the lowest (in New Zealand 170 lbs., in Denmark 350 lbs)? Why was it that her wheat yield for the past five years had averaged 29.6 bushels, while in Denmark it exceeded 40 bushels? Was blackberry to be allowed to continue its depredations without let or hindrance other than a pious hope that a remedy would come in the future ? There was certainly room for improvement in important directions.
