DESTRUCTIVE FIRE

A fire gutted (lie large five-storey premises of the Australian General Electrical Company, in iMountain Street, thence swept through buildings occupied by the General Power Farming Company and the skin and hides stones of ■/. Moxham and Co. The outbreak was one of the. fiercest lieen in Sydney for a long lime. A big force of firemen by the. greatest efforts prevented the fire'from spreading lo a number of big buildings in (he vicinity. The premises destroyed carried very heavy stocks and the damage consequently is serious.

The blaze was the most spectacular in Hie cily for many months. A wall of flame fifty feel high swept across the street, threatening many other stores, all containing highly iiifl.iinin.ible matter. Besides this, cascades of glowing cinders descended over the roofs for four blocks. The fire raged for several hours before being subdued.
