BURGLARY IN AUCKLAND

AUCKLAND, Oct. 9.
The Regent Clothing Company's premises opposite the Town Hall wero entered last night by burglars who climbed up the fire escape and through a window and rifled the cash box containing £23.

A daring but- unsuccessful attempt was made about 8 o’clock on Saturday night to break into the window of Malcolm Wiseman Limited. The caretaker of the building opposite, hearing suspicious noises, crossed the road to investigate, and found an effort had been made to break with a large stone a [date glass window valued at about £25. The glass was badly cracked and the stone was lying on the ground beside it. It is thought the offence was committed by hoys anxious to gain possession of fishing lines, of which there was a special display in the window. A valuable assortment of sports goods, pipes, and tobacco was also contained in the window.

In the Police Court Vincent John Small. 28. and Edward Ernest- Green, 23, pleaded not guilty and wore committed for trial on a. charge of breaking .and entering and theft of furs valued at over £4OO, the property of W. W. Platt, on September 14th. Vivian Charles Richardson, 26, was remanded on bail of £2OO on a charge of breaking and entering the warehouse of Dearsleys Ltd. and stealing foot-wear and a suit- case valued at £73/1513. Charles Powell Cooke. 35. was cTiarged with breaking an entering the shop of R. W. Wilson (it Wiri and stealing groceries and tobacco of the value of £l3/18/-. He was remanded. The police opposed bail, as accused had a revolver which he refused to hand over.
Mr Hunt, S.M. : I won’t- grant bail now. Hand over the revolver tlrnn I will talk bail.”
