SCHOOLMASTER CONVICTED
SCHOOL COMMITTEE SAYS MAX
NOT GUILTY

AUCKLAND, This Day. 1 lie ease of Mr Alfred Charles Hook, headmaster of the Mercer School, who was convicted at Auckland on Saturday o! the theft of a pair of socks, was considered by the Mercer School Committee last night. Mr Hook was present and gave an explanation, and the following resulution was carried: "That the committee have every confidence in Mr Hook and are unanimously nf opinion that he is not guilty of the erinic of which he was convicted. It is considered that the proceedings were too hasty, and that Hook was not- given sufficient- time or opportunity to dehnd himselt, especially considering his /'tide rj health, 1 a used by war service and the state of mind which such a charge would naturally cause. The committee trusts that the Education heard will give Honk every possible consideration and reinstate him in his former position.’’.
