SLY GROG SELLING
A FINE OF £2O (United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 25. Thomas Atkinson, a carrier, was charged with selling liquor without a license. A constable said he visited the place on May 23rd in plain clothes and was supplied with three bottles of .beer at 2/6 each. On June 6th he again bought a bottle. On one occasion he was accompanied by a friend. The defence denied that the liquor was .sold to the constable and said the amount found in the house, 12A bottles, did not indicate trade. Defendant admitted a previous conviction. The Magistrate accepted the constable's story and a fine of £2O on the first charge was imposed.
