BRITISH MOTOR CARS IN THE DOMINIONS

We observe, says the Daily Mail, that the Governor General of Australia in a speech lias' expressed regret at the scarcity of British motor-cars in the Commonwealth, despite 'the large preference so patriotically granted them. He places tlie blame for this state of affairs on British manufacturers, who are said to have failed to build cars to meet Australian conditions But is this •cully so? We believe it would be found on inquiry that many British makers are now turning out cars suited for work over-seas.

American cars designed to meet the needs of tlie United States, where the roads are often extremely bad, no doubt lane a high clearance, which is not characteristic, of the normal British types, and suits Australia. But we are glad to see from a telegram from Christchurch, New Zealand, a definite statement which is in accord with our knowledge, that British firms are now making efforts to supply precisely the ears which the- Dominions want. We hope tlie time is not. far off when our leading makers will entirely displace the American car in the Dominions.
