“OVER THE ODDS”
PROPOSED NAME FOR A TROTTER {United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. “Nngafonos, A Anderson’s b.g. by Brent Loeanda General Mac Mare.” That is a name which might have appeared on the trotting cards in future but for the fact that the board of the New Zealand Trotting Association this morning gave it an emphatic “no.” Mr R. A. Armstrong demurred when the name was submitted for registration. “Nugofonos.” he said meditatively. “It is not a very nice name. Can’t we have better names for our trotters?”
“What does it mean?’’ queried an ether member.
“Tt has . just oeeurred to me,” said Mr J. B. Norris, secretary, “that it is son-of-a-gun spelt backwards.” “Oh!” said the members, and promptly decided that son-of-a-gun backwards should not rage on New Zealand trotting tracks.
