BIG TOURNAMENT AT ROTORUA

ROTORUA, This Day

Tliere is a. great gathering of Maoris representative of the various branches of the race at Rotorua. The occasion is a tennis tournament for natives, 448 entries having been received for the re speetive championships. Eighteen teams are competing for the Mararnaru Cup, which is open to two teams from each Maori council district. Great enthusiasm prevails and the play is of a very high standard. The championship finals will be staged today. The first round of the Cup was played and Wanganui's (holders) chances mv fancied. The con tests will continue until Friday. All arrangements are excellent. Mon. A. I. Ngata. is directing the competitions and is also preparing a new constitution for future tennis tournaments for tlm Maori race. INTER -UNIVERSITY TOURNAM ENT DUNEDIN, This Day The inter-University lawn tennis tournament concluded yesterday under favourable conditions. The competition resulted in favour of Canterbury who won all five events and wrested the cup from Otago, who won it last year. WELLINGTON TOURNAMENT WELLINGTON, This Day. At the tennis tournament Donovan won the, men’s singles, defeating L. France.
