LARtH-irs DEMAND ;\sv EllccT.rif! ToloKraph.—Copyrißht.) (A'jHtrftJian A N.Z. Cabin Assooiation) ' LONDON, April 5. Mr Jowelt, an ex-Minister, president of the Independent Labour Party Conference, declared that the right to live was a fundamental demand and Labour must keep it in Ihe forefront and boldly announce thai the.next Labour Government, wilh or without a majority in the Commons, was determined to take decisive action in the direction of socialism. During Ihe past, five years British workers' wages have been reduced by the colossal total of 590 millions. An. increase in wurkers' incomes of 5/v.eekly per child out of State revenues would increase the workers' spending powers sufficient to remove all unemployment. He agreed with American Ambassador Houghton that European statesmen had learned nothing by thewar. "We were back to. [ire-war rivalries. The present capitalist policies must inevitably drown Europe in a sea of blood unless international labour organised resistance. The Party stood for internationalism as well as socialism in our time.' 1
