An exciting runaway occurred on Waihi beach on Sunday in which a woman and child had a narrow escape of being killed. Robert Mitchell. Public Works employee, was proceeding on a motor cycle from the main beach road on to the sand when the hack wheel struck a large stone, the impact jolting the hack lever out immediately. The cycle swerved, reared up oil the hack wheel, and dashed with terrific speed in lite direction of a group of hofday makers. Seeing the vehicle hud tun amok the crowd scattered in all directions. However, a married woman. Mrs .|. .1. Fox. wis knocked down and the year-old daughter of (laud Capper met a similar fate. The hitter's life was saved by the rider throwing the machine on its side just before the impact occurred. Mitchell was pinned beneath the machine and suffered severe injuries to the foot. The injuries io all parties were attended to by a doctor who happened to be on the beach.
