The Rev. W. Ready, of Hamilton, has retired after 41 years' service in the Methodist ministry. Mr Markman. Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department, is a visitor to Nelson. Trask, oT Palmeislon North, says the Standard, wi* be pleased to learn that their son Clifford, who for some months past has been seriously ill, has left the hospital and is now making a rapid recovery. Mrs \V. Kenning. of Stoke, attained her 93rd birthday yesterday. Mrs Kenning enjoys good health and despite tailing sight carries her great age remarkably well. She is to be heartily congratulated.

Mr A. (tilths, who has recently been appointed chief telegraphic engineer, was born in Dnnedin in 1877 and was educated at the Technical College and tile Otagm University. He entered the Post and .Telegraph service in November. 1891. After being attached to the operating room staff for 10 years, he was appointed to the district telegraph engineer's office., where he qualified for promotion in the engineering branch, ".Inch he entered in 1905. In 1911 he was transferred In Wellington as acting chief electrician, in the absence of .Mr. T. Ruckley. who was away nn a world's tour of inspect ion. Later Mr Oibbs acted as district telegraph engineer in Olago and Auckland, and inM9lB he re turned to Wellington as deputy chief telegraph engineer. Mr Cihbs acted as chief telegraph engineer in ]P,2O during the absence of Mr Shrimpton. and owing Jo the laser's retirement Mr Oibbs has been appointed permanently to the positl'lrll.

Mr T. .lenkison. who leaves Moineka mi Wednesday for West port was. last week, presented with a leather attache ease, by the members of the Amateur Drama! ic Society, as a token of their appreciation for the many services rendered in the capacity of secretary during the past 2 years. Mr .lenkison was also the recipii ni if a handsome umbrella, a gift from the stall' of the Mutueka branch of Ihe Hank of New Zealand.
