SCHOOL DESTROYED BY FIRE

The Post Office and school at. idle old mining township of Lyell was destroyed by fire at 2 o'clock this morning. Owing to the wires being down, fuller particulars are not yet available.
The building destroyed was a room rented by the Boar,) for the accommodation of the children in the township. The old school, a much larger building, is now situated*some distance from the homes of the children. An interesting feature about the school is that for some time all the pupils were hoys. Now. however, there is one girl and nine hoys. Also at one time one family almost completely filled up Hie school roll. Mr Thornton, secretary of the Education'“Board ,to-day received word that arrangements had been made to continue the school work to-dn'- in another building. AIDRCHLSON. This I)av.
A fire occurred at Lvell about 2 o’clock this meriting I fie block of old buildings. comurising the post office, lihrarv. school and court house being completely destroyed. The fire started in the post office.
Mr Mango's hotel was seriously threatened for .some time.
