ROAD BOARD MONTHLY MEBTIWS A: toe month!v meeting of the Subui'band North Road Board, there were present : Messrs E. \Y. Frost, I'. H. ( till. T. W. Anderson, and A. G. < HU. Mr .1, G. Uencker and Air W. IT Thompson were excused ti'om attend nine. Tim Overseer report'd that he had given tin- dayman of No. 7 .section (Wangamoa) instructions to do the necessary work of protecting the road from the river encroaching, and understood from a letter received from Mr Uencker that the work was- in progress, the dayman having procured the services of a man to help. A letter had been received from Air R. C. Wither in i e fore nee to using the Hoard s grader on all the roads under the control of the Hoard in the Happy Valley district, including Cable Hay ' Road, stating that lie was willing to work the machine on condition that lie is allowed to use three horses, and every care taken with th" grader, also to use a plough if neces-

sary. He had also arranged for Air H. A. Close to drive for him. lit would like instructions whether is to have a free hand whilst working the machine ir to be under the control of the daymen of their respective sections. Cable Hay road was being used for very heavy traffic lately, several lorry loads of rock’s having been carted from Mr A. J. Hannan’s property to Nelson, which is having a bad effect on this road, and in his opinion should not be allowed, especialy during wet weather. The road was getting cut up in places, a lorry being hogged in the xvatertable near the iron gate. Would like instruction as to stopping the practice or compeling lighter loads to be carried.

Arising out of the report the clerk was instructed to write to the lorry owners concerned re carting heavy loads on Table Bay road. reforing them to section 139. sub-section C of tho Public Works Act. 1908. The report, was then approved. The following correspondence was received : From Afr P. Rest. Chairman of the Wnimea County Council, dated June 20. in reference to the Board merging into tile County, and asking to have a reply not. Inter than 4ih August, when the following rcsolu i ion was passed: - ■' Flint the Suburban North Road Board, not being favourable to the suggestion contained in tho Waimea County Council's letter, cannot, entertain the proposal. as in the opinion of this Board, the ratepayers would he better served lo remain as they tire at present. .From Mr F. Krnupa. dayman of No. 7 section, stating that the last flood had undone all the work of repairing the breakaway in Lower Wangamoa Valley, only a few posts being left standing. —Left to the Overseer. From the Secretary Nelson Automobile Association, re making turning place for ears on the Boulder Bank near (he Glen, and offering £3 towards (he cost. From Valunr-Getficral (Wellington), re subsidy on rates roovoived. 1924-1925. forwarding a form lo be filled in and returned. From Alessrs Fell and llarley, solicitors (Nelson), forwarding an undertaking by Messrs Neale and Webster, trustess late James Alarlm's estate, as to Maori 'Fa private road, stating that, the passing of the resolution by the Board does not in any way render the board liable to maintain the right-of-way known as the Maori Pah private road. Resolved, that the clerk write to the Board ranger, asking him to take more action in reference to straying stock on district roads’. Resolved, that the clerk write to the Engineer of Waimea. County, inquiring i*' it- would he possible to pare off the sides of Dodson's Valley and Todd Valiev roads with flic Council’s grader whilst working in the district... Resolved, that, Air R. C. Withers proceed with the work of paring off sides of road, using his own judgment. Cheques were signed for £lB 9s.
