MR. WILFORD’S MOVE

* " A WELLINGTON COMMENT (By Telegraph —Bpecial to The Mail.) WELLINGTON .This Day As Mr Wilford’s announcement concerning. the change in the Liberal Party-s name is stated to he unanimous, Liberals are not commenting on the subject, hut Reform opinion is inclined to regard the whole- thing witlramazement. The Dominion editorially says:~'lhe announcement in typically Wilforish. Mr Wilford’s'leadership of the LiberalLabour party has been chiefly characterised by cheap tricks of this nature. What he does not appear to realise in that it, is not the name of a party that, wins the confidence of the people, but the policy and the men behind the policy.” The Dominion adds:—"Now that Liberalism has dropped and faded in popular esteem under his inefficient guidance, now that the name under his leadership has lost- all its charm to win electors, it is perhaps a wise step to seek an alias. That- Mr Wilford as a self-constituted leader of the real National Party is distinctly amazing, it recalls, the fable of the ass in the lion’s skin. Earlier references to this matter will he found on page 7.
