LADIES' GOLF CLUB

At a meeting of the Ladies’ Committee held on June 14th, the captain’s (Miss Saunders) resignation was received with regret. Miss Saunders, unfortunately, is forced to' retire owing to pressure of homo affairs and we are sorry to lose her. She has generously offered the captain’s trophy for the season, which offer is accepted with many thanks. At the same meeting Mrs L. McC'al]um was unanimously elected Captain, and we have much pleasure in recording her election.

The long delayed results of the June competitions are at last to hand, and we are pleased to note that a number of plavers have reduced their handicaps. Tho three best results of the bogey round played on June 12th are: Miss Baigent 5 up. ilrs E. Heath 1 down, and Mrs 0. Morgan 2 down. Miss Baigent, who used her card as an extra score, has reduced her handicap to 35 as from the date mentioned.

Other players who have reduced their handicaps on an extra scoro are: Miss E. Everett 91—20—71, the gross , score of which taken with* two previous ‘.‘best” scores reduces to 18 as, from 3rd June. Mrs L. McCallum 86—18—68, the gross score of which taken with two previous “best” scores reduces to 15 as from 3rd June. Mrs 0. Morgan 105—36 —69, which reduces to 33 as from 4th June. The best results of the Medal round, played on 26th June, are as follows: — “A” Mrs S. G. Smith 84—15—69, Miss M. McCarthy 90—18—72. On the above score Mrs S' G. Smith has reduced her handicap to 14 as from 26th June. “B” Mrs Cutforth 115—35 —80, Miss Baigent 116—35—81, Miss M. Whitehorn 111—30—81 “C” Mrs E. Heath 102—36—66, which score reduces Mrs Heath’s handicap to 30 as from 26th June.

The best results of the first round of the Electric competition played on June 19th, are as follows: ‘‘A ’ Miss P. McCarthy 40, Miss R. Saunders 41, Miss M. McCarthy 42. “B” Mrs G. Atkins 43, Miss Whitehorn 52, Mrs 0. Morgan 53. The draw for the Medal round to be played on Friday, 24th July, is as follows : “A” Miss E. Everett v. Mrs McCallum, ilrs S. G. Smith v. Scorer. SCHOOL COiIMITTEE MEETING The monthly meeting of the Motueka District High' School Committee w,as held on Tuesday evening, there being present : Messrs’G. W. Boundy (chairman), C. B. Morris (secretary), D. Goodall, J. T. Brough, P. V. Knapp, R, W. Stevens, H. Hart, S. P. Clay, and J. N. Bateman. A report dealing with dental clinics recommendation was given by Mr Clay in committee. On resuming, it. was resolved (Messrs Knapp and Hart) that the correspondence relating to this subject and the matter of extra accommodation be refered to the sub-committee for consideration. On the motion of Messrs Stevens and Hart, it was agreed to have the school piano tuned twice annually, for the sum of 17s 6d.

Resolved (Messrs Stevens and Brough), that subsidy be claimed on the first- aid cabinet.

Correspondence was received from: — Nelson Education Board, advising that- the Minister had approved'of a special grant of £7O towards tlie cost of permanent improvements carried out at the school; also asking tlie purpose of to which this grant is to be devoted. Resolved (Messrs Knapp and Brough), that the £7O be utilised for asphalting and fencing within the school grounds and for any like improvements. H, Holland, forwarding donation towards the Motueka High School lantern fund. —Donor to be thanked. Nelson .Education Board circular re term holidays, extension of subsidies on voluntary contributions, first aij cabinets. dental clinics, and gramophones.— Resolved (Messrs Morris and Brough), that the matter of gramophones he left in abeyance.

Leonard M. Tsitt, enclosing circulars and copies of Bill, “Religious Exercises in Schools,” for Committee to consider and vote upon the question. Resolved (Messrs Knapp and Gnodall), that- the matter of Mr Isitt’s Bill he left, in abeyance until the, members of the committee bad had an opportunity of perusing the circular. The attendance in the Primary School is far below average; an epidemic of measles continues its course, the attendance so far this week being lower still. The Departmental Inspector paid an official visit to the school on the 2nd and 3rd inst. We are now using the new science room, the structure being complete except for a few minor details. I was obliged to be away from duty for a few days owing to illness. Arising out of the report it was decided, on the motion of Messrs Stevens and Brough, to obtain six loads of gravel for the school.—Matter left to the ''chairman. Resolvd (Messrs Stevens and Knapp), that two cords of firewood be bought for the school.—Matter left to Mr Hart to attend to. On the recommendation of the Headmaster, it was decided, on the motion of Messrs Stevens and Hart, that the - Headmaster be authorised to sell the remaning copies (about 150) of the school magazine.
