NELSON WHARVES

REPORT TO BE OBTAINED A special meeting of the Nelson Harbour Board was held yesterday afternoon to discuss the matter of obtaining a report on the wharves. There were present : Messrs H. R. Duncan (chairman), H. P. Washbourn, E. Greenslade, O. Macmaliuii, A. Drummond, H. Kelly, A. Gould, Hon. W. W. Snodgrass, AI.L.C., and Capt. Afoncrieff. The chairman reported that while in Wellington recently he had interviewed Air Marshbanks and talked the matter over with him. Mr Marshbanks had stated he would he very glad to act; but tlie terms of his agreement with the Wellington Harbour Board precluded him from engaging in outside work. In reply to a question. Air Marshbanks bad mentioned two other engineers who might act. In answer to .Mr Drummond, the chairman said the chief matter at present was the inspection of the wharves. An estimate of what a report would cost would first be obtained. After some discussion, it was resolved that Messrs Holmes and Son he asked on what terms they would make a report on the wharves.

It was also indicated that a report would he obtained on the Mapua wharf. The chairman reported on behalf of the sub-committee regarding an application from the miniature rifle club tohave a range in the Board’s s'hed, at present leased to the Sea Scouts. It was decided to inform the club that the siii'd is leased to the. Sea Scouts and refer the club to that body.
