NELSON APPLES
ON DUNEDIN MATtKET

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day Nelson lias been sending quantities of apples to Dunedin and selling them at landed prices of 7s per case for dessert sorts and 6s for cookers. As the transport charge run to about 2s 3d per case tiie growers cannot have received much more than 2s 6d net after paying overhead expenses, a price that certainly entails a loss. In these circumstances Central Otago orchardists have held back their supplies with the result that they now have enough apples in hand to supply the local market steadily, but not lavishly, until the ’American consignments come in, so that Dunedin and other centres that take from the central "ill he able to get a-a much as they reasonably require for an extended period. Further, special arrangements are made to keep a sufficient quantity of Otago apples for a display at the big exhibition. Great care is needful in regard to the storing of the apples that are to be so exhibited but the matter ia in experthands and visitors to the exhibition are sure to note with satisfaction ana possibly with some surprise the result of this taxing trial of the keeping quality.
