CAR WITHOUT PROPER BRAKES
OWNER IN EI) £5 On the information of C. Parkinson, traffic inspector. 11. Coleman, motor car proprietor, of ita. \ at.cy, was charged at the Magistrate’s Court to-day, be fore Mr T. E. .Mauusvll. with driving a motor ear without proper brakes. Pc fendant did not appear, and Mr Cheek represented the buy Council. The traffic inspector, in evidence, said that as a result of complaints, lie inspected the car in a local garage, and considered it was no. fit to be on the road. Defendant was running it. between Flat Creek and Canvastown, carrying passengers. Witness produced some photographs of the ear. lie pointed out to tin' Bench that tile back of the car was held in by a strap, and that a box was list'd oil the side to keep the door shut. In answer to counsel witness said the emergency brake was loose. lv. Woodham, motor mechanic, said that when he saw the ear on lith June tlie brake was missing altogether, but he could not say whether tl* J other one was working. The car had only been washed in the garage, and was in a diapidated condition. Constable O'Neil gave evidence as to seeing defendant driving the car.
A fine, of JUS was imposed, costs £1 5s 6d.
