MARLBOROUGH TROTTING CLUP' “ NOTES ON THE RACING u, (By. Telegraph.—Special to The Mail.) BLENHEIM, March 6. Perfect weather prevailed Bathe .Marlborough I rotting Club s meeting, but in consequence of the heavy over-night rain, the attendance was disappointing. Ihe trade was in i'air oruer, and most of the winners iiad to inijin u’ on their handicap lime. T tie Canterbury trained Horne Thorpe was backed down to odds on in the Trial Handicap, which only attracted six starters. Getting to- work very smartly, the favourite was going nicely just in front of Halloween and Erin s Child at the end of the hail*-mile with Calm Leaf, who lost ground at tiie siart, handy. Once into the back suaigtu, ii.mdy. Once into the back straight Duriie Thorpe was going nicely in trout from Evans Child and Halloween. So they raced round the top turn and into the home straight, where Erin's Child put in a break. I’his looked to clear matters for Dofrie Thorpe, out m ttie run home, Erin’s Child wore her down and won comfortably by two lengths. At a similar interval came iiaiioween, followed by Palm Leaf, itnu s Child, who is trained near Christchurch by \Y. H. Wright, looks like doing her owner, Mr E. Parker, further good service. Dome Thorpe did not race up lo expectations, after having the best of driving.

Of the live .starters in the Waterlea Handicap, only Audubon Child and Golden Morn were supported with any spirit. The later misbehaved at the start, and caused a long delay. Getting to business very smartly, Audubon t-hikl had a lung lead Loin Lunsdah, Golden Horn, and Tracey Bov as the

stand was reached. Once into the back stretch Tracey Boy took second place and aroused considerable interest, as he. closed on the leader. When it came to business, Audubon Child had Tracey Boy’s measure and won very easily by nearly two lengths, easing up rrom 'lracey Boy. The winner is trained at Kaikourn, and does most- of his work driven by his owner’s daughter. He is a uselul sort, who looks like a goof proposition for races in Christchurch. Go-iden -Morn has n fine turn of speed, but Tracey Boy is not a stayer. Straight put, I.Vrsapariila out, of court and Gay Parrish won comfortably by four lengths from Sarsaparilla, who was only a head in front- of Wire. The winner mushed up his task in fair style, but- so tar, he cannot be regarded as a good trotter. Of nine starters in the Dash Handicap c'cv j,:niy Zoiyi and Drone were backed with any epir.it. In the early stages i luniin.i.g •.n it opened up a useful lead from Kiribingi and Megala, the ]atnained of whom went to an en>)v break. Racing along the back stretch. Kirihnigi nad a useful lead from Humming Bird. Why' Worry, n.nd Drone. As ;ne field turned for home, Kiribingi looked tiie winner. At this stage lie was going nicely in front of Humming Bird. Why Worry, and Lady Zora. Half wav down the home stretch Lady Zora closed on Kiribingi. This pair fought out, a- rare finish, which ended in favour of Lady Zora by a head in the improved time of 2. 2.21 1-5. Drone, who carried the confidence of Christchurch sportsmen, did not settle to business in the early stages, but. showed a fine burst of speed over the last two furlongs. All heavy monfy in the Stewards' Handicap was fc-r ‘Maori Peter and Comfort. The former did not begin well and was soon in a hopeless position. As the fields, went along the. back straight, Com fort was going nicely in front' of Countess Eve. Brooklyn Hall, and WestFrom this out,' matters were easy lor Comfort, who won at her rider's discretion hv two lengths from Westwood. 1 his marked the winners’ fourth placed performance- at the circuit and stamped her as a solid trotter. Maori l’eter, who caried the confidence of Christchurch sportsmen, gave a pool ‘Towing. On the trip up he got knocked about and was evidently feeling the effect of Guv l’arrishs.

All the acceptors went, to the post for the big harness of the day. \vith A- !’ temnig m sulky Megala was infialleii n better favourite than Ohvyn. and after this pair came Revolia and f-tsier Beauty. fu (lie public estimation, backers of the favourite had a poor run tor their money, as she broke up early and endeavoured to run right off the

..rxe. wlien Lite field had settled to business. Osier Beauty, Why Worry, Hevclin and Kirihingi were in'front and so they raced for nearly a mile. Then Revolia took charge front Osier Heautv, Kirihingi, arid Ohvyn, the last named of whom was, pacing in great style. As they rounded up for the run home. Revnha was still iti front from Osier Reality, Why Worry and Ohvvn. Be10*1'c reaching the distance post,' Hcvolia and Why Worry faded out and Osier Ibauty and Revolia were just heading Ohvyn. _ In a very interesting finish OJwyn just managed to go up to win bv a length, after one of tlie imest finishes ever seen on Waterlea course. Revolia, "'lto purchased before the meeting bv "Swanny" ,Smith, went a very solid race and is sure to be better as the season progresses. Why Worry, Grey Thorpe. Garoinea and Rita Rye could not see the solid pace out. Tito winner went three seconds better than her handicap time and there should be future races in store for her.

tlie heavy money in the Ladies bracelet was, for Tracker, a. stable mate of Audubon Child. None of the limitdivision made the best, use of their handicaps, and with half.a anile gone I’e Roa was heading Rahv Rose' and hallo,,vc-on. Once into the home stretch, lo Rot. had the opposition settled and won com fc,it ably by eight lengths from baby Rose, with Palm Leaf and Just Rill ‘Jose up, 'Tracker, who was in strong order, broke up at the start and did nothing right all through the race. Guy Parrish made amends for his injure doloats by scoring a comfortable win in the President's Handicap for which hp, was in better demand than lalnaliana and W ire. On this occasion itie American stallion started off at an even gait and had the issue in safe keeping a long way from home. lie only had to go 5.15 2-5 to win, but'did not. tn a mariner that suggests other wins coming his, way, the locally-trained Marfa on ri lln went a fair race for a mile and a, half, but broke twice when asked to do bis best. After being slow to begin \\ ire was finishing bettor than anything tn the race.

After starting slowly, Caprice was soon in a handy position in the Farewell Handicap. ‘ She raced up to- Deerfool, and Tiny Hu on as the six furlongs post was reached, with Tracey Boy doing the best- of the other back markers. Jiny Huoii looked a likely winner as the field has been straightened up for the run homo, and a little further on he was joined by Caprice and Tracey Bov. Jii a goad finish t‘aprice stayed on better than Tiny Huon and won nicely in 3.3 2-5, after being badly placed in the crttly stages Outstep finished 4th, followed by flucn Lad.
