THE MAYORALTY

MR W. LOCK A LIKELY CANDIDATE

It was indicated by the Mayor (Mr W .Lock) at the City Council meeting last evening that he would seek reelection at the mayoral election next April. The subject was introduced by Cr. Edwards, who said he hoped the Mayor would shortly announce that he would again be a candidate. He hoped the -Mayor would again seek office, as he believed it would be most unfortunate at. tho present time to have a change in view of the important loans recently carried and to be given effect to during tho year. Cr. Edwards said he would not be seeking re-election as a councillor as he would be out of New Zealand at the time.

In replying, the Mayor said that several citizens had asked him what his intentions were. He had been thinking the matter over and felt that if it was the wish of the people for him to seek re-election he would be prepared to do so. hut it would he the last time. He was in favour of giving the community every facility for progress, but at- the same time undue burdens must not be placed on them in the way of high rates, su far as he could see, if the people wanted him ho would he prepared to> seek re-election. (Hear, hear and ap.) Personally he would like to see. all the Councillors again come forward. They had given him considerable help anil had treated him remarkably well.
