Commander Norman Wood-Smith of the Royal Indian Marine, who visited Nelson on three voyages as an nppreiV tive in the Shaw Savill and Albion’s barque Lutterworth, in the years 1902 to 1905, has come on leave for a visit and is staying at Wainui House.

The death occurred suddenly at Westport- on Fr iday of Mr Thomas P- Wil-. liains, proprietor of the Westport r l imes, who collapsed and died as lie left the racecourse after tiie last race was run. Tiie late Air Williams was a native of Auckland, j 67 years of age. With his parents and brother, Air W. Williams, of Westport, lie came to Wellington, afterwards returning to Auckland. From phoro tiie Williams family came down to Nelson and then on to Westport, arriving there in 1857. Deceased served his time to tiie printing trade with tiie late John Tyrell, and on Ins death became manager and ong of tiie proprietors of the Times and Star, continuing in that capacity to- the time of his death. Deceased ‘took a keen interest in racing, and was Chairman and Treasurer for a period of the Westport Trotting Chib. He was also Chairman of the Wesport Permanent Building Society, holding that office at tiie time of his death. He was also a member of the Afasonic fraternity. Deceased leaves a widow and three" grown up sons, Messrs Tyrell, Athol and Allan Williams, and a. brother, Mr W. Williams* -merchant, of Westport.
