REDWOOD’S VALLEY AND STEWART’S

BUSY TIME IN THE ORCHARDS FRUIT CONTROL BILL SUPPORTED (Own correspondent.)

The district just now presents a busy scene. Ploughing and pruning are finished in most of the orchards, and the spray pump is now hard at it everywhere, getting on the first important sprays. The weather lately has been_ anything but ideal for this job, and we shall be fully occupied for tiie next few weeks making up for lost time. Most of the places look promising for a crop, and as the younger blocks on Stewarts’ are now exporting, and the Government guarantee is assured for 1925, the export tally next year should be a large one. . , , , . iVt a meeting of fruitgrowers held in the Valley on Monday night, a long discussion on the Fruit Control Bill was held. This subject is of vital interest to growers, and it was pleasing to see the unanimous support in favour of the Bill. With the busy season now upon us, social activities are on the shelf for a while. During the winter months the School Committee bold a very successful series of euchre tournaments, tile proceeds from which arc to be used for improvements to the school grounds. The football season is now over, and togs put away till 1925. Last Tuesday week the Redwood’s team and a number of the residents met at. the Valley to welcome the visiting Chinese team. After being entertained at morning tea at Mr Campbell’s the visiTors were shown the vatious items of interest connected with the fruit industry, in which they were very interested. This month .should see the opening of the Westdalc tennis courts, and many pleasant gatherings of the Stewart Estate people arc being looked forward to. Two new courts are being formed in the school ground at the Valley, and should.be ready in a short time.
