(United Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, August 15. The Arbitration Court continued the hearing of the application by the Drivers’ Federation for a new Dominion award, the existing wages, according to witnesses, ranging from £4/5/- to £4 15/-. The award rate being a minimum of £3/17/- there was difficulty in living on tho wages received, and damage was done to clothes and hoots by material carried, such as lime, cement, and artificial manures. One witness declared that a general driver was a sort of jack-of-all trades—shipping clerk, railway clerk, labourer, and carter combined.
