BEFORE A PACKED HOUSE
The Nelson Amateur Operatic Society’s second performance of “The Private Secretary,.” wak? given, at the Theatre Royal last evening, when there was a packed house and the large audience was thoroughly .pleased with the presentation of the comedy. The principal characters- were sustained in a manner that reflects the highest credit on those to whom the pa'rts were entrusted and again indicated that there is a wealth, of theatrical talent at command in Nelson. Mr A. R. Kingsford as “Rev. Robert Spalding”; is mostly in and gave a masterly • interpretation of, the character. AH* W. R. Wansbone,: as '. .‘‘Air Cattermole,” also had a heavy part to. whicn. he proved '-eminently suited; sharing . honours ' with Air Kingsftir&V. Wotton, as “Douglas Cattermole,” was quite successful, .and Alessrs O. Hamilton, E. ; H. Short,, K. Lee, H. Saunders,; , and -S. 1 .'Rb ’Grant, all ably' carried out-. their-.iis-spective roles- AlissAl. “Aliss Ashford,”, quickly establi&]ae& herself in tlie good opinion of her audience and made a great liit. -The oilier ladies in the cast—Misses M. AydovLE Thomas, and S. Sow man—are also to be highly complimented on • theirshare in the production. . .
The Society’s fine orchestra played, ii t intervals. The overture, “Lights Cavalry,’ ’was a very enjoyable item.but the other selections were somewhat Spoiled through the competition of .t&' scene shifting operators. ' - ..cur, At the close, Air T. E.
