PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
MR COOLIDGE ACCEPTS NOMINATION

WASHINGTON, Aug. 14
In a speech accepting the Republican nomination for the Presidency Mr Coolidge reasserted approval of limitation of armaments and entry into a World Court, lie said : “America’s foreign policy is peace. We covert no territory, and support no threatening military array. We have sought to promote peace not. only by word but by appropriate action. We have been unwilling to surrender independence. We refused to ratify the Covenant of the League of Nations, but we have cooperated with the League to suppress the narcotic trade. We have every desire to help, but the time and place must be left to our own determination.” Mr Coolidge strongly endorsed the Dawes plan, adding “When the reparations plan is in operation I shall approach the Powers with a proposal for a conference to discuss further limitation of armaments and nodit’catjon of international law. I personally should favour enter! ig into covenants for the purpose of outlawing war by practicable means. Mr Coolidge praised the protective tariff as the promoters of farmers’ and tradesmen’s prosperity and the highest standards of living. He pointedly denied that honesty of government was the chief issue of the .ensuing campaign.
