WHOLE QUESTION REQUIRES OVERHAULING (From our Parliamentary Correspondent) WELLINGTON, This Day. Mr Howard’s Workers’ Compensation Bill was brought in for second reading by Mr Parry last, night. Mr Parry said it was desired to increase compensation in the ease of the death of a worker through accident from £750 to £IOOO, to give an injured worker full pay, instead of 58 per cent, during a- period of total incapacitation, but not exceeding £3 15s a week and in the case of partial incapacity it was asked that, the worker should receive weekly payments equal to the difference between the average weekly earnings before and after accident.
The Minister of Labour (Air Anderson) stated he was bringing down aWorkers’ Compensation Bill this session, hut. would not press for it being passed. He. would lav it on the table so that, t ho public could study it before next session. The compensation law would have to be altered considerably. In bis opinion the whole thing wanted looking into from beginning to end and put on a sound basis as bad been done in other countries. Tlie Bill was read a second time and on the'Minister’s suggestion referred to the Labour Bills Committee.
