AVONDALE RAILWAY STATION ROBBERY

A SMART ARREST (United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 16. Ednumd Edwin Rodbui’ne Luttrill, 35, was charged at the Police Court witli breaking and entering the counting house of the Avondale railway station and stealing £56/12/4, the property of the Government railways. Accused was remanded without bail. Detectives .Cummings, Robertsjpn and Moon ascertained that accused was in possession of more money than in ordinary circumstances. They found him sitting on liis bed when they entered his room in a Queen Street hotel. An examination was made in his presence and disclosed the money alleged to be part of that stolen at: Avondale, and other identifiable property taken from the safe. Loose cartridges and a catalogue detailing the working of an electric burglar alarm system were also found on him. Air Poynton, S.M., remarked that those responsible for the smart arrest should he congratulated-
