LYTTELTON WATERSIDERS’ PICNIC
UNION FINED
(United Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.
A penalty of £25 and costs was given against The' Lyttelton Watersiders* Union by Magistrate Widdowson in his reserved judgment relating to the Wntersiders’ picnic, which was held on a recent Monday in face of the employers’ protest, following on a postponement from the date originally fixed. The Magistrate commented strongly on the weak and incredible statement made in •the course of evidence as to the inabilitj of union officials to influence the men. He said that actions spoke louder than words, and no doubt the secretary influenced men not to work who would have been willing to work on picnic day.
