ANOTHER “BAWRA”
YORKSHIRE HOSTILITY
(By Electrio Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.)
LONDON, April 8. Yorkshire newspapers criticise in a hostile spiiit the Australian proposals /or a regenerated “Bawra.’ The Post says: “The easy control which the Higgins committee were able to exercise with the monopoly under the British Government wartime purchase caused him and Ills friends to lose their sense of proportion. The reception in Australia of this latest attempt at dictatorship will he watched closely in all countries where Australian wool is consumed. Meanwhile the opinion is entertained here that the buying and other important interests to whom, it is proposed to dictate will give the wool growers a pretty had time should a serious attempt he made to put such a scheme into operation.”
The Yorkshire Observer says: “The oily real point which draws attention to the scheme is the fantastic notion thatit is possible for the proposed organisation to fix wool prices in the world’s markets. Any attempt to create a virtual corner in wool, or any particular kind of wool—for that evidently is what is contemplated—would arouse the strongest opposition from wool users, even were it a practicable proposition. If wool growers have an elementary knowledge of the factors governing the marketing of the world’s wool supplies they will not be deluded bv the tempting' bait to draw them into the over ambitious organisation which interested parties would like to sec permanently established.”
