TELEPHONE EXCHANGE FOR THORPE
A meeting of residents of Thorpe and surrounding districts was held‘fit the Dovodale Hall on Monday evening last to consider the question of establishing a Telephone Exchange Aat Thorpe. Air Hounsell, Deputy Telegraph Engineer, addressed the meeting, explaining the conditions under which an exchange would be opened and giving the rentals for the various lines, The point was. stressed of the advisability of concentrating all the subscribers >t one central exchange, in order to get ,a sufficient number to obtain a 7"a.m. to 9 p.m. service, A committee was formed tc convass the district.
Further meetings at other, centres are being arranged to enable the conditions and rates to be further ’explained.
