DUNEDIN FLOODS
WATER RECEDING S IMPROVED RAILWAY SERVICE (United Press Association). DUNEDIN, This Day. The flooded areas in the city and suburbs have undergone wonderful improvement during the past twenty-four hours and another day or two will soe conditions back to normal so far as the flood waters are concerned. The northern end of the town has been clear of water some twenty-four hours, and during yesterday water from the major portion of St. Kilda has almost disappeared. A portion of the town north of King Edward Street is still badly inundated and it. will be probably some days before tho waters disappear completely. With regard to the railway lines, the North line is clear and on the Southern line trains are running to Mosgiel only. It is reported that the line has been seriously damaged further south, and several bridges washed away. It is hoped to get railway connection with Invercargill to-day; but this is not definite. ~, , The Taieri plains are still under water, but the flood is receding. Owing to a break in the water main irom Sullivan's dam, residents of Mbrriington, Roslyn, Caversham and other portions of the city have been without water; but the break is now repaired and practically no rain has fallen during the past' twenty-four hours. The flood waters 'are receding very slowly by gravitation. The Taieri County Engineer reports that the damage repair will be even more extensive than., was incurred in the 1900 and 1908 floods. „? , ',, . r , Above Otokia railway bridges the damage is bad. One strip 400 feet long is down to the surface level. The main south- road was overhauled yesterday and traffic'got through.
