" The judge’s comments were as under: The dogs which competed for the piizos at. the above dog show were a very creditable lot, but hardly up to tie standard of the previous year, taking them as a whole. In class 1 Die winners were indeed first-class. Special mention must be made of the winner This dog would hold his own in any show yard in New Zealand for sheep dogs. The runner-up is also a good dog, but is beginning to show many symptoms of rough usage; the other prizetakers are all of a good type, useful and hardv. but hardly up In the standard of a show yard, they being tenderfooteci and wanting in condition. In class 2 the hitches "were a very medium lot. as a whole, ■ with the ,exception of the ni»t and second prizewinners. In class 3, which was strongly represented, the fh st prizewinner was a handsome, wollr roportioned and splendid footed dog: the second prize dog being very close up to the winner, he being a true type of theVillie breed; the others call for no special comment. In class 5, tor bearded collies, the first and second prizewinners are (logs true to type, and as far as judging is concerned there is little to choose between either of them. A little more attention to the feet ot the unsuccessful compeitcrS in this class would pay their owners very handsomely. In the class for puppies over lb months and under 18 months oki, the first prize taker is a beautiful puppy, and if taken care of may develop into a very useful dog. Tho second prize fell to a slut. Although small, tho quality is there, and 1 ver.turo to predict she will claim the eye of any judge on many future occasions when exhibited in tho show ring. , , ]n tho team class of three dogs, the winner of the first prize has a team of very useful dogs indeed, and I leej lie, will be able always to get lii.s own mutton with any of them. Of the other winners very little comment is necessary, as there is little to choose between any of them, the lot being good useful dogs of which no man need bo ashamed to own any of them. In the class for rough-haired clog, the winner was indeed a roughhaired dog, and of a hardy colour, with splendid feet and a keen cv>. Tho runner-up was also a dog that no judge could pass—splendid feet, good colour, and a masculine head with a pair of eyes which would penetrate a wool hale. Further events aro being held today.
