OVERWORKING JUDGES
“UNFAIR AND IMPROPER” (United Press Association.) ' AUCKLAND. Dec. 21. The Supreme, Court vacation . extends from - 20lh December to 31st, January, both ' days inclusive, Jmt" Mi I ' Justice Stringer * even to-day was holding a sitting of bis Court. Appreciation ■of this by, the members of the legal professioit was mentioned ■by Mr John Alexander, president of the Auckland La\v Society. He said , that the action iof his llonour in-sitting during thei vacation was all the 1 more appreciated because the profession knew how overworked members of the Bench were at the nresent time. “The profession consider it unfair and improper,” .he said, “that Judges should have to sit day after day, as they do now, >vithout proper opportunities to consider matters and write their judgments,, while the facts of cases are freshly before their minds.’,’ This was' hot fair to the Judges, it was not fair to the Bar, and ;it did not niake for' tpiick or proper , administration of justice'. .‘lt was strong'ly felt that, in the best interests of the Dominion, the number of Judges should ■be increased;
His Honour replied that lie was very anxious to keep the. work of the Cqurt under control. He would certainly he 'glad to see ovcn'fork'rerndved' in fairness to all parties concerned.
