THE BUTTER OUTLOOK
AAIK RICAN DEMAND The market for butter is reported a little firmer in London. The .National Dairy Association received a cable dated December 9th from its London office that New Zealand butter was quoted at. 180/-, Australian at 174/- to 176/-, .Argentine 160,- to 166;-. and, Danish at d'JGy. Mr Mcrvyn Wells, chairman of the Cambridge Co-operative Dairy Association received a cable from London dated December l.ltb, staling that Cambridge butter was quoted at 184/-- and oilier brands at 180/- for delivery after Christmas. The New Zealand Co-opera-tive Dairy Company, Ltd., received a similar cable from its agents in London, quoting Anchor butter at 184/per cwl,, also indicating that the market was likely to go higher, as buyers had been holding off in the anticipation of lower prices ruling and were, therefore, short for the Christmas demand. The message further indicated that the prices were likely to remain firm until January, when the heavy arrivals might repress prices, hut it is not considered likely that quotations: will drop rnucli below 170/-. It is of interest to note that America is demanding butter grading of a minimum of 90 points and it is (hough 1 likely that fair (iiuuitities of superfine will go to the (Jailed States during the next couple of months, notwithstanding the duty of 4d per lb.
The directors of the New Zealand Cooperative Dairy Co., Ltd., decided yesterday at, Hamilton that the advance payments to suppliers should he the same as (hat for last month, namely, 1/2) per lb for superfine and IjA for cheese. '
