At the meeting of the Harbour Board yesterday, the chairman IMrl-t. R. Dun,can) referred to the death of the late Mr T. S. Edwards/a former member of the Board. The chairman said the late member had always beer, very active (biting bis term, and his experience in railway matters had been of great service. It was resolved bn the chairman’s motion to send a letter of sympathy to the widow and family.
After an absence of 9 months Mr G. W. Lock (son of the Mayor) returned from Dunedin overland last evening, where he'has had a successful session at the Otago University as a medical student. ' :
News has been received in Nelson of the sudden death of Mi’s Holdaway, | widow of the late Mr James Holdaway, ‘ of Lowlands Farm, Dillon’s Point Roaii, Blenheim. Mrs Holdaway was born at Richmond in 1849 and the family removed lo Blenheim in the eai’ly sixties and took up a farm on the low-lying land on tlje seaward side of Blenheim. Married, in early life, Mrs Holdaway shared all the pioneering difficulties consequent on th'e Hooding of the lands by the Opawa and Wairau rivers, Finally these were overcome and a rich reward was received ‘ for patience and. industry. A. family of eight* sobs and six daughters grew up around them. AH the eons have beeu successfully engaged in farming in the neighbourhood of Blenheim and five of- the-,-daug|hiter»: are.pmmed 'and are living in the Jlarlborough district. There are many grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family ' has been closely associated mlh the Blenheim Methodist Church.
